Thank You-Thank You-Thank You!

Thanks to all who kept us in prayer today as we headed through the mountains. We did not even have to chain up!

The snow started in Sweet Home on Thursday. They kept calling for snow, and it finally showed up Thursday AM. However, it did not really start to stick until around 2pm when I was leaving to head to Corvallis to meet Bill for a DR appointment.

The snow at the top of our drive on Thursday afternoon...

The road into Lebanon from Sweet Home...

Through the night, Oregon got hit with ice, snow, and more snow! We woke, and Bill had to take the big truck to get out of the driveway. I checked the weather, and road conditions, and found that I-5 was closed. We were very disheartened, as our plans were to leave today (Friday) and it looked as though the mountain passes were bad, the valley was icy, and we asked for a sign to know if it was safe. The Lord answered that prayer at 8AM.
Nate called--he told me that the road closure was due to an accident--not actually the ice, and they were working to get it cleared and re-open the highway. According to what he saw, it looked as it would be clear by afternoon for travel. He said they were headed to Medford and asked if we wanted to caravan down that far. It was then that I saw hope. I called Bill for clearance, and we busily started packing so we could hit the road as soon as Bill home from work.
Being Nate & Katie were taking Katie's Grandma to Medford with them, we picked her up (she lives just down the hill from us) and we met at the gas station in Brownsville, and passed off Grandma Marge to Nate & Katie and hit the road. We hit snow a few times in a few of the passes, but nothing major, and the roads were clear....snow only falling and on the sides of the road....phew!!
We stopped for lunch, and the stopped in Medford to unload some of what we brought down for Grandma Marge....then headed south. We headed up into the pass, lots of snow falling, not too much on the road, until we hit the top. Some were pulling over to chain up to come down the mountain, but being Bill had the 4wd on, we didn't feel it was necessary. We came down without event, and didn;'t even realize it was the Siskyou Pass that we had crossed...the one I was worried over. By the time we hit Redding CA, we stopped for supper, had NO snow, and the temps were in the 40s. We drove another few hours, and stopped in Stockton CA for the night. We put on almost 600 miles today, and spent a good 11 1/2 hours in the car, and we figure at least 10 hours driving. Enjoy some of our pictures (with my cell---camera was in the back ;( ) Nate is the car in front of us! It was BEAUTIFUL with all the snow..enjoy!
We will try to update you tomorrow if we have internet. Continue to keep us in prayer, and thanks!!
