Riverbend Camping Weekend

Another "Awesome" weekend. Another fun time with friends. Another weekend that we didn't get rained on (too much!)

We left home at 3:45, hit Les Schwab to get our new tire put on the trailer, and pulled into the campground at 4:20. It's tough when you live 8 miles from the camp!

It was partly sunny, and they were calling for rain Saturday night, so we put out the awning, and strung out the lights, and prepped for rain. About 5:00 Lynn & Cyril showed up with the O'Hara kids and our kids were thrilled that they had their "set up" jobs done, and could play. We shared a nice fire, dinner, and a fabulous pumpkin pie with REAL whipped cream that Lynn made & brought along. I've decided she can be my second Mom, since she has cooked so many favorites since they've been here and she & Cyril are so fun to be with! After dessert, Lynn & Cyril headed back to Lebabon, and then we put kids to bed and enjoyed hot chocolate with the rest of the whipped cream....yummy! You can come camping with us anytime Lynn!! (And Cyril too)

Saturday we woke to cloudy skies, but no rain. The kids had a giggle fest as they were waking up. They slept until 7:30, so it wasn't too bad. The Barbie song from a few posts ago gained more verses, and even more silly lines. Declan & Ryan were so proud of themselves...and almost too silly! They did finally get dressed, and out the door to fight off any evils in the camp!

I took out the dogs, and JayDee disturbed a yellowjacket nest. By the time I got the yellowjackets off her, I had one up my pant leg, and got stung too. We warned the kids, and of course, later in the morning, they forgot. Someone dropped a gun (of course next to the disturbed hive) and Bill had to go rescue it. Declan & Alexis got a sting, and the later in the day Kimberly & I both had a sting. They were an angry bunch, and they didn't seem to be localized to the area that the nest was...they were eveywhere!

After the bee incident, we went for a walk to the river. The kids had a great time playing on the river bank and building a rock bridge to the small island on the river edge. They all worked together and had so much fun doing it. Everyone had their job and working together they accomplished their task.

We returned to camp and enjoyed lunch. Everyone got to cook their own--everyone had a great time! We played at camp for awhile, Ryan, Uncle Mike, and Eric went to see if they could find any deer. The girls painted rocks for a few hours, while Declan climbed trees, helped haul wood, and eventually painted his rock too. The kids & Bill went back to the river to finish the 2nd half of their bridge and once they returned, Ryan & the guys were back.

We had a great dinner of beef stew, and fresh bread, followed by Berry Cobbler. We had a cloudy day with sun breaks and a slight drizzle at the campfire, but a great day all the way around. Lynn & Cyril took the kids home as they had plans for Sunday, and we finished up the evening with 2 kids instead of five. It was very quiet, and our kids missed the O'Hara kids.

Sunday we woke to SUNSHINE! We had a great breakfast of sausage, bacon, potoatoes and onion cooked over the fire in a dutch oven. We enjoyed the fire, and the sunshine, then tore down camp & headed home. Enjoy the photos...and enjoy our weekend!
